October 2012 – Higger Tor

It was a wonderful morning three weekends ago on Higger Tor. Arriving in good time for sunrise I could see all of Hope Valley under a wonderful mist inversion. I spent the previous morning on top of Mam Tor under complete cloud cover. I was wishing I’d tried again. But, on Higger Tor I had probably the best conditions ever. As I was photographing the pre-dawn light, a bank of mist rolled across the landscape. This coincided with the sun rising above the horizon. There was only around 10 minutes of light, but the scene constantly changed all ending in the sandstone glowing red. The sun soon rose into cloud and the opportunity had passed. But I went home happy.
